Here’s another trio of closely related bikes, but very different from our “Cobbled Classic” Road bikes. All three come from the Specialized stable and although similar in many ways and potentially interchangeable, they also have distinct characters of their own:
All three boast carbon frames, 29er wheels and full suspension. All three would be at home at a trail centre or on a race start-line.
The Stumpjumper (furthest right in the pics), has more suspension movement and a more relaxed set-up, making it the perfect trail centre weapon. The latest incarnation of the model that launched mass-production mountain biking, it’s a incredible piece of kit in 29er form – £2,500.
The Epic is Specialized’s World Cup XCO bike (furthest left in the images), with intelligent rear shock and less suspension movement, to give it instant response and real race pedigree. It’s a fast bike that will test its rider, but reward the fit, committed and skilled like no other – £3,200.
The Camber – sitting in the middle in every way – is slightly tauter and slightly less relaxed than the Stumpjumper, but a little more forgiving and rider friendly than the Epic. It’s a classic all-rounder which can handle almost anything thrown at it – £2800.
We love them all – come along to our showroom and make your own comparisons. They look great together and make an interesting study in where the 29er has taken the XC rider in the last few years!
